Advice for Girls

Here is some advice on how to get started as a girl soccer player… as you would have imagined, it starts with the feet!

You need to get good soccer cleats if you’re playing outdoor and good indoor soccer shoes if you’re playing indoors. and then tough shin guards, and a ball that will withstand your pounding.

Girls Soccer Cleats and Shoes:
Avoid getting softball-style cleats/shoes, which have an extra nub directly under the toes that can be annoying when playing soccer. To avoid buying softball cleats, turn the shoe over and look directly below where your toes would be located, and mentally mark off the middle. Then look to see if there is a cleat, or stub in that area. If so, it is a softball cleat, soccer/football cleats will not have a cleat in that area. The next thing you want to look for is good padding, it needs to be waterproof outside. Adidas®,Nike®, Diadora®, Baden®,  Brine®, Fila®, Puma®, Reebok manufacture the top soccer shoes so you should go for those brands.

Soccer Ball-
Keep in mind that there are many different soccer ball sizes, size 4 and size 5 being the most popular. The top soccer brands out there manufacture many different models and colors every year, so check them out yourself. Top brands are Adidas®, Nike®, Diadora®, Fila,® Puma®, Baden®, Umbro® and Xara®. Remember, get the right size for your needs, or child’s age. If you are unsure, this website, Soccer balls explained, will teach you  about types and sizes, including how to buy the ideal soccer ball for yourself or your children.

Girls Practice Gear-
Soccer shorts need to be large in the leg, and tend to be nylon or dri-weave type material instead of cotton. Tshirts need to be comfortable and absorb perspiration. Look for 100% Cotton.

Girls Soccer Sweats-
Look for feet with zippers to get on and off over cleats. Waterproof and light weight is also recommended.

Girls Scrimmage Vests-
Reversible scrimmage vests come in handy especially to separate 2 teams. When ordering online, check for minimum orders and ask if you need letters and/or numbers on the back.
